Natural Treatments For Sinusitis

!9#: Natural Treatments For Sinusitis

Upper respiratory sinusitis infections spread to the sinuses, beginning from the nose and leading to the mucus passageways. Allergies to pollen, dust, smoke, and similar air pollutants can trigger sinus attacks, as well hot, indoor environments with dry-air heating, or a room with excessive dryness. Some of the side effects exhibited by a person suffering from sinusitis include headaches, dizziness, and an inability to smell.

Some people elect to have sinus surgery as a way to get rid of the headaches associated with a severe sinus infection. While surgery may offer short term relief, it cannot guarantee that sinus problems will be permanently gone. You can also try prescribed antibiotics, but may experience side-effects. But, there are many natural treatment remedies available to alleviate sinusitis. They include reducing dairy intake, or using steamers, compresses or nasal sprays.

Sufferers of sinusitis should limit dairy intake, which includes milk and all milk products. Dairy products have been shown to produce sinus-congesting mucus and limiting dairy intake can help to reduce the amount of mucus the body produces - relieving the runny nose associated with sinusitis.

Some steamers are designed to help restore sufficient moisture to the lungs and respiratory tract. Many steamers have plastic, contoured hoods to cradle the face. Water goes into the unit's base where a heater gently boils it. Warm, moist air is directed right into the nose and throat to help relieve nasal, sinus, and chest congestion. Adjustable controls on the steamer allows you to control the amount of steam.

To use a compress for sinusitis, you will need the following: two face cloths, hot water and cold water. Soak one face cloth in hot water, wring it out and place the face cloth over the nose, eyes and sinuses surrounding these areas. Leave in place for three minutes. Have the second face cloth soaking in cold water. Wring the cloth out, and place the cold cloth over the same area of your face for 30 seconds. Repeat the alternating sequence two more times for a total of three alternating sequences of three minutes hot and 30 seconds cold. For severe and acute problems, perform morning and evening. For less severe problems or maintenance, perform once a day.
